what is the best way to clean wax from containers to make new candles at home?

just started making candles for my own use at home and don’t know how to clean wax from used containers(jars, etc.)Also i am on a very limited budget(retired)and was wondering if you can use food coloring rather than color made especially for candles? I really enjoy making the candles but i can see the price of supplies is going to make it very difficult to enjoy this hobby. If anyone has any ideas on less expensive options(colors&scents) i would appreciate your advice.Thank You

I don’t know about using different things for your colors or scents, but when I want to get that last bit of wax out to reuse the container I always put them in the freezer for a while and the wax just pops out.
