How much do you spend on yours? Is it a really expensive hobby? I look at scrapbook supplies in the stores and they seem very expensive to me.

depends on how much you want to get into it. when i first started scrapbooking, didn’t cost me anything more than 20 bucks a book because i used a spiral notebook for my pages, gluestick, markers, and plain scissors. when i started REALLY getting into it, i would say i’ve spent over 5k on it. you get out what you put into it.

I just bought a bunch of scrapbook supplies for my daughter and spent over $75. However what I bought her will last a while.
If you want to buy scrapbook supplies do it when hobby lobby or michaels has them on sale.

It can cost alot but what i do is go to the dollar store, dollar general for stickers and big lots for the paper and books. I buy a little at a time then i can do it with out thinking omg how much money did i spend. it’s also cheaper if your find some friends and share stuff. take double exposures and share them too. have fun with it. there is sites on the net to that has ideas on pages that r already done and go to the library and print them it is cheaper its like 25cents a copy. watch for sales at Joann fabrics for stuff too

There are definitely wasy to save money! Begin collecting the supplies you like at Walmart, Michaels, Joanns, Hobby LObby, etc., when they have sales. If you already know what colors, theme, etc, you can focus on that and save a bit. Don’t get everything at once, little by little! Another way to save on the album is paper bag albums. They are made of paper bags, folded in half and then sewn down the middle for stability, VERY CHEAP, but adorable. For true archival quality, however, they need to be sprayed with an archival mist first. I always check clearance at Target, Walmart and everywhere I go, you never know what you will find. Think outside the box as well, lots of things can be used to scrapbook that aren’t made for that reason! Office supply stores have lots of wonderful gadgets (paper clips) that I use in my work. I have been selling scrap stuff on ebay for about a year and find that I get the coolest items at offbeat places. Have fun!

Scrabooking can be expensive, but it depends on how detailed you want to be. If you don’t care about tons of stickers, die cuts, or other embellishments, then it’s not that expensive at all. Personally, I think the most important part of scrapbooking is to preserve not only the photo, but the story behind the photo. Journaling is something that can be handwritten or printed from the computer. All that you would need for a scrapbook of just photos and the journaling is paper, photos, the book itself, and maybe a few coordinating papers to use for matting or backgrounds. It’s easy and it doesn’t make the pages look cluttery.
Scrapbooking doesn’t have to be expensive. I get my stuff from Joann’s (mostly). They have sales on their stickers quite often and if you watch the sales, you can get their 12 x 12 scrapbook paper for about $0.16 a sheet. They have 40% off any one item (regular price) coupons that come in their ads (in the Sunday paper) and you can sign up to receive coupons in your email and in the mail! They also take Michael’s coupons too–and best of all, you can use all these coupons in the same sales transaction. Because of this, I hardly ever pay full price for scrapbok stuff. I highly recommend you look into this and see if you have a Joann’s in your area.

You can keep it simple and use coupons to avoid spending too much. Keep away from the expensive little decorations and stick to mostly paper and you can make a nice scrapbook without spending a ton of cash.

If you start with a kit and buy just a few other things to get started it doesn’t seem that expensive. It is but you can spread the cost out. A few dollars at a time and its not so bad. Its a great hobby and you can make your memories accessible and easy to share. I love it so much and think it is totally worth all the time and expense.

yes, it can be a very costley hobby if you are not carefull. I bought a wishblade and a cricut, which totaled about $550.00 but I am now able to make almost any shape, word or anything for my pages that I want. Of course not everyone can afford to get these, if it was not a gift I would not have them either, but if you can it is a great investment.

Hobby Supplies
I am a scrapbooking instructor at Michaels near where I live. It doesnt have to be an expensive hobby but it depends how detailed you are. If you are a person who likes a lot of embellishments and stuff going on it can add up. Watch sales to get good deals. Stick with items that has multiple uses. Stay away from themed paper as that will cost you more and often ends up sitting in a pile of paper you dont know what to do with… (I have about 7 bins of different supplies I have never used).
Stores like Michaels offer crop nights where you can use some of the expensive tools free with the class fee. Its a great way to get pages done without buying the big tools.
Do you take digital pics or regular film? I am all digital and recently discovered how expensive it is just to develop. I researched and discovered that for those taking digital pics you can do hard printed books often for the same cost of just the developing. If you just want them done simply there are tons of sites out there that offer templates but not much customization. If you like the scrapbook look you need to research for what works for you.
After much research I now have a website where my clients can do digiscrapbooking and have books printed. It is webbased and works with both MACs and PC’s.
you can visit my website
or contact me if you want more info.
this link will bring you to a short video about it.
I tell all my students that the most important part is to preserve their pictures and get the stories behind them documented. Pictures without stories are memories lost.
Have fun with your new hobby. Its a great feeling of accomplishment when you create something yourself. Have fun.
